HOW TO SILENT YOUR COMPUTER

Hi there!
In this article we'll reveal the ways to reduce your computer noise.
First, we need to find out if this article applies to your computer.
If you answer YES to any of the following questions, then you might need to do something with those decibels:
- Do you feel strong vibrations when you put your hand on the computer?
- Is your computer sounds like a factory?
- Does your wife ask you to move your computer from the badroom?
- Does the computer's noise affect the quality of your movie experience?

Well, if you have a passive cooling and a silent power supply you might be a very happy computer user.
The rest of us, who still have noisy computers, we'll do something, rather then buying another cooling system or an expensive silent power supply.
I'll give my computer as a example.

First of all you should know that my computer could be easily called "The Truck" :)
For my bold, I've tried to locate the sound generators and I've found the following sources:
- the CPU cooling fan, with 4500 rpm, from a Box package.
- the case itself, a cheap one, have a lot of portions who get into vibration and, at some point, get into a nice sincronisation with the CPU cooler and amplify the noise very strong.
- the dust from the fans which de-equilibrates the fans and inducing vibrations.

For reducing the noise I have tried these:
1. THE CASE - Knocking easy on the interior of the case I've found the places where the table was not tide. With some tools, I hardening the table, check it continously by knocking.
2. THE FANS - I've tried 2 ways:
- reducing the transfer of the vibrations from the fans to the case by mounting the screws on rubber and, by this, separating the fan from direct contact with the case. Silicon must do the job too.
- reducing the speed of the CPU fan. For this, I have reduced the main +12V voltage by adding 2 diodes in series with the fan. The result is a reducing by 1.2-1.3 volts of the main 12V supply. The speed of the fan was reduced to 3700 rpm. Monitoring the temperature of the CPU I found that the temperature was still in resonable range, under 65 degrees Celsius. Thats's good.
In the SETUP capture bellow, the CPU temperature is wrong (at half).
The Power Supply Fan is acceptable about the noise, and the input fan (from the front of the computer) is also quite quiet.
